Devin Jake has the true make-up of a classic country-roots singer…a small town boy from a musical family with first-hand knowledge of heartbreak and the lonesome, haunting lyrics and vocals to portray it. Hearing Devin instantly takes you back to a time that you’ve only read about – a time where there’s a porch, a sunset and a family entertaining themselves and their closest neighborhood friends with their own hymn-based pickings and harmonies. Or it’s an evening gathered around a small radio tuning the dial to get a clear sound of the Carter family.

Growing up in a small Nebraska town of under 200 people, Devin’s strongest musical influence was his mother who sang and played guitar to him and his six siblings. “My mother used to play the guitar and sing all the time. She used to sit in the bathroom while we took baths and sing cause she thought bath time was boring and she only played old country.” Devin was the only child to carry on the family musical tradition by learning to play guitar. Fittingly, Devin’s mother taught him to play and sing with the innocent, upbeat, country standard, “Apple Jack” and Dolly’s “Coat of Many Colors.”

After a college stint in Chicago, Devin began performing publicly in 2005 armed with a collection of original material based in heartbreak and childhood. Songs like “Take Me Home” – written for his cancer-fighting step-mother after Devin received a phone call letting him know she was ready to die – & “Jesus Tell My Mamma” – a song asking the Lord to make sure his mama thinks he’s doing alright despite his very real struggles – are the types of songs that have defined Devin’s career and will continue to distinguish him from other artists.
